Since this year, I have no dog in the fight so to speak – and really I haven’t since John “Riggo” Riggins and Washington Redskins played…I haven’t had an interest in football since those glory days. So if you’re like me, we’re probably going to kick back and enjoy the other American pastime…marketing! Yes, America is known for our creative ways to sell you things you don’t know you need during the biggest game of the year.
Lucky for me, this year, many of the top ads were “leaked” online to preview and I thought I’d give me my thoughts ahead of the big game. I will be live tweeting with the rest of the folks who share my love of marketing on Twitter as we dissect the ads and discuss the real time impact of the million dollar seconds that brands spend on these commercials.
Budweiser Super Bowl Commercial “Lost Dog” – Budweiser #BestBuds
You can set your watch to Budweiser. Every Super Bowl you can be assured they will connect animals and suds in a way that makes you cry into your beer. This year, it’s the love between a Clydesdale and a puppy. Someone hand me a tissue…my beer is wet.
SNICKERS® – “The Brady Bunch”
If you are a fan of Danny Trejo (from such films as Machete and From Dusk Til Dawn) as I am, you will take great joy in seeing him in his pivotal role playing “Marsha Brady”…with a nice cameo at the end from “Mr. Pink”. If only Quentin could remake The Brady Bunch for his next film
DreamingWithJeff.com – Built with Squarespace
The “Dude” (Jeff Bridges) gets weird in this ad for Squarespace. What this ad has to do with Squarespace? Who knows…but it’s nice to see that Gary Busey has a commercial he can relate to during the Super Bowl…
Kia Sorento Official XLIX Ad with Pierce Brosnan – The Perfect Getaway
For my money, there have only been two James Bond’s Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. The rest are just pretenders to the crown.
#RealStrength – Dove Men+Care
Dove has been building a nice space with their campaign of “Real Women” and now they appear to be targeting “Real Men” with the hashtag #RealStrength – nice to see the men get recognized in this ad.
NO MORE’s Official Super Bowl Ad: 60 Second
In what I predict will be the ad that stops everyone in their tracks this year. This ad will you leave you speechless and will be the ad that will be talked about this year, in my opinion. The NFL has had to deal with the issue of domestic violence with the story of Ray Rice but this ad brings the point to light in a way that you can’t put into words unless you have lived it.
Listen to the show and leave your comments on your favorite ads or predictions for who will win the day. Cheers and Go Marketing!
